One of the first questions we are often asked, or questions that are at the top of the list for families who are researching assisted living and senior care is ‘How much will the care cost, and how will we pay for it.’
Naturally, many of us have not had much experience placing a familiy member into long-term care, and although we may know in the backs of our minds that we “may” have benefits through Medicare, or other routes, we usually don’t know any details, or where we can go to ask questions.
Fortunately for Alabama seniors and families, the state has a great program designed to help families with one-on-one, confidential Medicare beneficiary counseling that will help familes to better understand Medicare (both parts A and B); Options for paying for long-term care; low-income assistance programs – and much more.
The program is called “SHIP” which stands for the State Health Insurance Program, and employs hundreds of trained, certified, and experienced volunteers who are standing by to help famlies through the process of learning options, and finding appropriate care.
For more information, we recommend calling Alabama’s AGELINE at 1-800-AGELINE.
This program is funded through grants from the Centers for Medicaid Services.
